Albert Heijn builds home delivery capability

Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn,  which is often compared with Waitrose,  has opened a new fulfilment centre dedicated to servicing its eCommerce business. With capacity to fulfil some 40,000 orders a week, it will employ 1000 staff in Amsterdam. This is the first of a series of planned facilities which will eventually replace the retailer’s click and collect points. Albert Heijn is also testing an offering of delivered hot meals within central Amsterdam via an arrangement with Deliveroo.
