Amazon dispenses with pop-up stores

Amazon will close its 87 pop-up stores in the USA and instead focus on opening more book stores. Its pop-up estate which primarily sold Amazon’s electronics range, comprised kiosks which it had located within its Wholefoods store chain as well as in Kohl’s stores and shopping malls. All will be gone by the end of April. Kohl’s stores will, however, become a stockist of Amazon’s electronic products.

A spokesperson said: “After much review, we came to the decision to discontinue our pop-up kiosk program, and are instead expanding Amazon Books and Amazon 4-star, where we provide more comprehensive customer experience and broader selection.”

Plans for the new Amazon book stores are currently under wraps.
