ASOS’ Watford team faces cuts

Further redundancies are under consideration at ASOS with the spotlight falling on its Watford customer care centre. This follows the consultations held at head office, primarily with members of its marketing team.

As has been widely reported, ASOS says it was hit by problems in its new warehouse operation in Atlanta which has failed to keep up with demand, whilst also facing growing competition and a tougher market closer to home. ASOS’ bottom-line has also been under pressure from the sheer costs of servicing high levels of returns generated by the ‘serial returners’ who have seen fit to exploit the online retailer’s generous free returns service. A number of these ‘customers’ who had been blatantly abusing the system including the wearing of clothes prior to sending them back for refunds have had their accounts deactivated.
