Battle Orders makes a retreat

Battle Orders, a mail order retailer of replica arms and armour,
will shut down by the 1st February. “It’s not the credit
crunch; that’s difficult of course for us all,” wrote
managing director Graham Barton in a letter to customers.
“Business remains reasonably steady here at Battle
Orders,” though the company had not ordered stock since
October. Barton cited the “confusing and very difficult to
understand” Violent Crime Reduction Act of 2006, which
places increased restrictions on the sale of imitation firearms,
as the reason for shutting down. Among the law’s requirements,
buyers must be registered as a film production or historical
reenactment society to order guns in their original finish by
mail.
