Holland & Barrett sales rise, profits fall

Holland & Barrett as posted a like-for-like sales increase of 4.5 per cent for the year to September 30th. Revenues rose by 7.1 per cent to £656 million and included a significant 23.6 per cent increase in online demand. However, increased capital expenditure in store additions and refurbishments saw profits fall by 37 per cent. The business has been investing considerable sums to upgrade its online channel as it battles against other general retailers, including supermarkets, who are now stocking more health food and supplement lines in response to customer demand.
