John Lewis heads down under

John Lewis has announced that it will have a physical presence in Australia for the first time by opening shop-in-shops within six branches of Australian department store Myer.

The first will open prior to Christmas this year in Myer’s Warringah store on the outskirts of Sydney. This will be followed by openings in Melbourne, Perth, Bondi, Chadstone and Myer’s flagship store in Sydney in February 2017.  The John Lewis departments will be between 600 and 800 sq.ft. in size and offer an exclusive assortment of John Lewis’ own brand home and lifestyle products across bed, bath, and living.

In addition, John Lewis has extended the number of countries it delivers to via its website from 33 to 40. For the first time, customers will be able to order from John Lewis for delivery to countries including Hong Kong, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, The Philippines and Malaysia.  Customers can now pay in a further ten local currencies.  In the past 12 months, online international traffic has increased by 15 per cent and international online sales by 50 per cent with homewares amongst the most popular buys. British fashion from brands like Joules, Jigsaw and Phase Eight are also popular.

Kate Jordan, head of international development at John Lewis commented “We’re delighted to be expanding our international presence  and bringing John Lewis to new countries around the world, both through physical collaborations and by expanding our online international delivery destinations.”
