Lidl planning home delivery launch

Lidl planning home delivery launch

Lidl is being rumoured as preparing the ground for a launch into providing home delivered groceries. It has formed Lidl Digital Logistics with its CEO, Christian Hartnagel, as one of the directors. The retailer denies it has immediate plans for launch but if it did proceed then market watchers expect that Aldi will be quick to follow, or may even get an offering launched first. Whether one or both of these German giants does offer a service comparable to that of its primary rivals, it will cause considerable concern to Tesco as well as to Asda and Sainsbury’s. Waitrose and Ocado could also find that Aldi, if it goes ahead, will become a significant competitor for wealthy customers in the South East. Marks and Spencer is also testing a home delivery service in limited areas pending a more extensive trial and it too could lose ground to Aldi.
