Nation of small online shopkeepers

Research carried out by CollectPlus found that more people than ever are selling goods online through marketplace sites like eBay, Amazon, Gumtree, notonthehighstreet.com and via social media to supplement their incomes. Further it is the north-west region that is achieving the greatest success as these entrepreneurs are achieving an average profit from their trading of £42,192 as against the average across all regions which is £33,000. For 44 per cent, selling online began as a part time activity and has now become their primary income source. One in five commenced online trading when unemployed and 11 per cent turned to online following redundancy. Flexibility, and achieving a better work/life balance also figured highly for many.
