New DPC for Ireland

Helen Dixon has been appointed as the new Data Protection Commissioner by the Irish Government. Dixon replaces Billy Hawkes who has held the role since 2005 and retires this month.  The appointment comes at an important time as many expect the EU Data Protection Regulation will be passed later this year and Ireland will be looking to retain its position as a major location for multi-national organisations’ data centres, leveraging the “one-stop shop” clause which forms part of the draft EU regulation.
