Talks between Royal Mail and the Communication Workers Union
ran for 12 hours yesterday and are expected to continue today as
both sides hope to prevent the strikes scheduled for Thursday and
Friday. According to The Guardian, “Union sources said
that the fact that the talks lasted so long was a positive
sign”.
Arcandor, the insolvent German retailer, is
shutting its Quelle German catalogue,
resulting in 1,500 redundancies. Quelle’s Swiss, Austrian, and
Eastern European units are still for sale, Deutsche Well reports, as is Arcandor’s
Primondo unit of speciality catalogues,
including fashion titles Afibel and
Peter Hahn.
Activewear brand Musto, which sells via
stores and online, has launched a print catalogue. The 50-page
book is selling its autumn/winter range.
Ian Mason, chief executive of RS Components
parent company Electrocomponents, tells
Electronics Weekly that the web accounts
for more than 70 per cent of its Japanese sales and nearly half
of its sales worldwide.
The Times has a paean to
Habitat, the once-thriving, now loss-making
furniture retailer that parent company Ikea
has put up for sale.
