Like-for-like revenue at multititle mailer N Brown
Group rose 10.7 per cent, to £662.5 million for the year
ended 28th February. Profit climbed 6.2 per cent, to £95.5
million. Ecommerce sales soared 38 per cent, to £225 million,
or 34 per cent of total revenue. In its preliminary results
announcement, the company added that it had a “confident
outlook for 2009”. N Brown’s apparel and home goods
catalogues include Fashion World, Simply Be, and House
of Bath.
If your business has a contract with Royal Mail and
paid for services that were billed by the organisation as VAT
exempt, you may be able to claim a rebate on the VAT you paid,
according to accountancy and financial services group Smith &
Williamson. This is due to an opinion issued by the European
Court of Justice. Although a final ruling has not yet been
issued, Smith & Williamson suggested that affected businesses
submit a protective VAT claim.
Meanwhile, Royal Mail has issued a salary freeze for all
employees, reports Personnel Today. In fact, 70 per cent of UK
companies are planning to freeze or cut wages this year,
according to a British Chambers of Commerce study cited in
Financial Times.
