News roundup–OKA, Mothercare, more

As reported on
16th July,
Mothercare has acquired a 25
per cent stake in its Australian franchisee Headline
Group. Headline currently operates six Mothercare and 27
Early Learning Centre stores in Australia. Its
store portfolio is set to increase significantly though, after
its recent acquisition of the Babies Galore and
Baby on a Budget retail businesses in
Australia.

Furniture retailer Oka opened its “new
three-storey, furniture-cum-lifestyle emporium” in London,
“creating a buzz to rival the beehives on the roof of
Fortnum & Mason” writes the Telegraph.

The CatEx Postal Procurement project, a group buying
initiative for members of the Catalogue
Exchange has seen 22 multichannel retailers sign up in
its first six months. Since its launch, 58 mailing campaigns have
passed through the scheme and more than 3.2 million items have
already been mailed. The savings of each individual company vary
according to the rates they were paying before joining the
scheme, said a statement from the not-for-profit trade body, but
it is estimated members will collectively save more than
£250,000 in the first year alone.
