Postcomm reviews compensation structure

Postal regulator Postcomm has set out proposals to simplify Royal
Mail’s compensation scheme. It has conducted a public
consultation and worked with Royal Mail and Postwatch to address
concerns about the complexities of Royal Mail’s current
compensation schemes for retail customers. The proposals aim to
clarify the processes of making a claim, the evidence required to
support a claim and the compensation payments themselves.

Postcomm is also proposing to remove bulk mail from a regulated
compensation scheme. It says that it is “more appropriate
to move towards a market-driven option”, which can better
reflect the needs of large mailers.

In other Royal Mail news, Allan Leighton will remain as chairman
until March 2009. His term was scheduled to end in March 2008,
but the government extended it after failing to find a successor.
