AO World posts record peak trading results

AO World has recorded record year on year UK revenues of £457.3 million for the three months to 31st December 2020. This represented growth of 67.2 per cent over the same period last year and, additionally, its revenues from Germany for the period rose by 77.4 per cent.

The business which says it had incurred significantly increased costs by meeting the operational challenges presented by Covid-19 compliance, in particular in its returns processes, says it is continuing to invest in its infrastructure, going forward.

AO founder and CEO John Roberts said: “I believe we’ve seen 10 years of change in 10 months, and experienced our strongest ever peak trading period. We backed ourselves by investing early in warehouses, vehicles, stock and people.

“This not only set us up to satisfy customer demand for electricals for the current crisis but also for the longer term, as the structural shift to online becomes a permanent feature of the market in the UK and Germany.

“One of our biggest achievement this period is to have our German business profitable throughout Q3.”
