Debenhams makes furloughed staff redundant

According to a report from Reuters, Debenhams has taken the axe to hundreds of head office roles across its buying, merchandising, and HR teams. It is understood that all of the affected staff had been furloughed.

The business, which went into administration for a second time in the Spring, has come under fire for the closures of its Irish operation as well as for its administration of its Hong Kong business which encompasses sourcing activity in both Hong Kong and Bangladesh.

Debenhams now proposes to begin to open some of its 90 stores in England from June 15th. It is not known how many of its past concession holders will continue to trade within any of the Debenhams stores
