Dixons Carphone enjoys online surge

In its report on the 10 weeks to January 9th, Dixons Carphone says its enjoyed online sales growth of more than 100 per cent with sales of electricals up by 11 per cent on a like for like basis. In particular, it said that the highest growth came from large screen TVs, smart tech, food prep, health & beauty, gaming and computing. However, its mobile phone division took a 40 per cent drop, which it attributed to its decision to close all standalone Carphone Warehouse shops last April.

“We’ve continued to trade strongly, both in the UK and internationally, while ensuring colleague and customer safety is paramount,” commented group CEO Alex Baldock. “We’re winning online, where we’re the biggest and fastest growing specialist technology retailer in all our markets. And even where stores have been closed, our work to bring the best of digital and physical shopping to every customer has borne fruit in such innovations as our one-hour drive-thru Order & Collect and ShopLive.”

The business took the opportunity to announce the appointment of its new CFO. Bruce Marsh joins from Tesco, replacing Jonny Mason.
