Halfords to recruit 1,100 temporary festive jobs

Halfords is recruiting for 1,100 temporary roles in the lead-up to Christmas to meet a ‘surge in demand’ for bikes.

The cars and bikes retailer is expecting to see increased demand in children and adult bikes over Christmas and Black Friday. This follows the publication of Halford’s latest results last week, which showed a 148 per cent increase in online sales, while cycling revenue grew by 54.4 per cent on a like-for-like basis (see Direct Commerce news story).

“With the public turning to alternatives to public transport this has led to extra demand for bikes and essential motoring service,” said Halfords’ group head of resourcing, Andy McBride. “That’s why we’re excited about hiring some much-needed help during the festive period.”

Paul Tomlinson, cycling director at Halfords added: “We have had tens of thousands of customers on waiting lists for deliveries and this has continued beyond the traditional summer peak, particularly for adult bikes as lockdown continues. Kids and junior bikes also appear to be one of the most wanted Christmas presents this year and early indications are that parents are shopping early so that they don’t miss out. We’ve also seen e-bikes perform particularly well as many discover the benefits of a battery-powered bike ride.”

Temporary vacancies are available across the UK and Ireland, supporting store teams in the lead up to the busy period. The temporary roles come in addition to the recruitment of a wide range of permanent service-oriented roles across the retailer’s stores, Autocentres and fleet of Halfords Mobile Expert vans, announced on Wednesday (18 November).
