Hotel Chocolat starts year on sweet note

Hotel Chocolat posted a 14 per cent increase in its revenues for its first half of year ended 28 June but suffered a 14 per cent fall in the second half due to lockdown. In total, for the full year, it recorded annual revenues of £136 million.

It had proved able to ramp up its online sales achieving a 200 per cent year on year increase for the three months to 28 June. It had also boosted sales of subscriptions by 47 per cent.

Angus Thirlwell, CEO, said: “Our physical retail usually accounts for over 70 per cent of sales in the second half, but all locations were closed for the entire Easter period this year and beyond. It is a testament to our lovely customers’ loyalty that they switched in droves to online and we containing the Group impact to only -14 per cent in the half.

“Online, our brand is now set to a significantly faster growth trajectory, delivering gifts, subscriptions and household indulgence.”
