Jobs to go as Direct Wines moves call centre

Direct Wines will shift its call centre from Plymouth to its
distribution centre in Gloucester by the end of the year. More
than 170 permanent and temporary jobs are at risk in Plymouth,
though permanent staff have been told that they can retain their
jobs if they are willing to relocate.

On the message board of the Plymouth Herald website one
reader wrote, “If Direct Wines have really won awards for
customer service, then it is the staff that have won the
awards… Seems like a competitor could gain a huge insight into
the operation of Direct Wines purely by poaching staff…”
Another commented, “Great praise for the great employment
Direct Wines have provided in Plymouth over the years, great
company to work for, but I think they’ll find… they have made
the wrong decision”. A spokesperson for Direct Wines could
not be reached for comment by press time.
