‘Leading online retailer’ to open new East Midland distribution hub

‘Leading online retailer’ to open new East Midland distribution hub

Segro’s East Midlands Gateway logistics park, which already serves Games Workshop and DHL, among others, will have a new tenant later this year.

The developer says it has agreed a ‘major’ pre-let deal with an, as yet unnamed, leading online retailer, to take on a 15-year lease for a 150,000 sq ft unit on a 21-acre site.

The site will house a distribution warehouse, while the double-level vehicle parking areas will have space and electrical charging for up to 200 vans.

Other features are said to include roof-mounted photovoltaic panels and LED lighting.

Segro’s accelerated construction programme means the new unit will be ready in just over five months, rather than the standard nine months for a building plan of this size. While the customer will have access to begin its internal fit out after 14 weeks, it says.

Andrew Pilsworth, managing director – national logistics at SEGRO, said: “This pre-let is a brilliant example of how we are supporting our customers’ growth plans and showcases how we are helping them meet their sustainability goals.

“The deal highlights the region’s increasing demand for modern, sustainable warehouse and industrial space, and how developments like SEGRO Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway can provide the scale, location and connectivity to meet them.”

The logistics park is next to East Midland Airport, one of the government’s eight new designated low-tax ‘freeport’ zones, and close to the cities of Leicester, Derby and Nottingham.

Practical completion of the new unit is expected in August 2021.
