Microsoft and Walmart make joint bid for TikTok

The Chinese video-sharing app TikTok which Donald Trump is imminently set to ban from the USA unless it passes into US ownership is likely to be acquired by Microsoft and Walmart. The two companies are seeking to acquire not only the US operations but those in Canada, Australia and New Zealand for a consideration mooted to be between US$20bn and US$30bn.

The ban came about due to mounting security concerns over laws in China that permit its government to demand consumer data from all technology businesses.
