News roundup–Jones Bootmaker acquired, Bravissimo launches new brand


Bravissimo will drop the clothing range from its
catalogue from March to launch a new apparel brand called
Pepperberry. The new offering, which will have a
bricks-and-mortar, online and catalogue presence, will use
Bravissimo’s trademark sizing for women with larger bust sizes:
Curvy, Really Curvy and Super Curvy. The first dual-branded
Pepperberry/Bravissimo store opens in Reading on 14th February;
two standalone Pepperberry stores also open in Edinburgh and
Aberdeen later this month.

Shoe retailer Jones Bootmaker has been acquired
by Dutch firm Macintosh Retail Group, which also owns footwear
chain Brantano. Following the deal, Jones
Bootmaker aims to increase its retail presence by opening 15 new
stores in the UK over the next two to three years. Further, a new
website will go live this year to capitalise on online growth and
a separate distribution centre for online sales will open soon.

Sportswear chain JD Sports has confirmed it is
in “early-stage discussions” to acquire struggling
rival JJB Sports.

Components firm Premier Farnell has sold
TPC Wire & Cable to TPC Intermediate Holdings,
Inc, a venture-capital vehicle backed by Pfingsten Partners, for
$43 million (£26.6 million). The disposal is part of
Farnell’s plans to focus on the electronic design engineer and
MRO markets.

Home Furniture Land, an online retailer of oak
furniture, has ceased trading. A statement on its website asked
customers to contact liquidators at Crossley & Davis.
