Next half year online sales rise

Next has reported a 3.7 per cent rise in its sales for the first half of its financial year, to 30 July, with its online sales rising by 13 per cent. Store sales had dropped by 5 per cent. Lord Wolfson who has been in support of Brexit commented: “It is very hard to determine whether the uncertainty over Brexit is having an effect on consumer spending and we can find no evidence that it is affecting spending on small ticket price items.”

He did, however, concur that the first few weeks of the Autumn season had been disappointing but was more inclined to link that to the warm start to September.
