Ocado loses capacity following fire

A major fire at its customer fulfilment centre in Andover which took place in February has led Ocado to make 400 redundancies as attempts to work from temporary premises proved unsuccessful. The centre had capacity for 65,000 orders a day, representing some 10 per cent of Ocado’s overall capacity.  The online retailer says that its replacement facility will take two years before it is ready for occupation.

“In the light of the fact that the rebuild of the Andover customer fulfilment centre will take at least two years to complete, it is with immense regret that we have commenced a formal consultation process. We would like to thank all of our colleagues for their hard work and we will provide them with all the support we can during this process,” said an Ocado spokesperson.
