Retailers prepare for store re-openings next week

Most fashion and other ‘non-essential’ retailers are planning to phase their re-openings from next week, unsure exactly how consumers will respond. Many studies are showing that whilst many shoppers will see the re-openings as a start to the return for ‘normal’, it may take some convincing to encourage them into stores.

According to one report, we will see dramatically de-cluttered stores, with much less stock on display, amidst very strictly controlled access. When it comes to trying on garments and shoes, retailers will be required to monitor customers much more closely. They will need to sanitise and quarantine the products customers try on and discard as well as deep clean the facilities they use. The same scrupulous processes will also need to be applied to returns.

Add to this the requirement to have hand sanitising products accessible, staff wearing masks and disposable gloves, it will be a far cry from the environment customers have previously enjoyed.
