Terrys’ sales soar as lockdown boosts demand

Home furnishings retailer Terrys has reportedly more than doubled its annual revenues. Sales were up 109 per cent over the last 12 months, it says, due to a ‘huge’ surge in demand throughout recent national lockdowns.

The family run business sells homewares and fabrics, including curtains, blinds, and soft furnishings, online and via its Stoke-on-Trent store.

With more people buying products for the homes and gardens they’ve been locked-down-in for months at a time, the market has flourished. According to Terrys, searches for blackout curtains increased by 47 per cent, while for roman blinds they went up 49 per cent, compared to the previous year.

Paul McGuiness, managing director at Terrys, said: “It’s been a really challenging year for many industries, but we are really delighted to have seen a continued demand for home furnishings during this time.

“The past twelve months has seen many people investing in their homes, and this is a trend that we anticipate will continue throughout the coming months.”

The company is off to a strong start for 2021, having already agreed new deals to stock popular homeware collections from Emma Shipley, Cath Kidston and Tess Daly. It’s also launched an exclusive collection with designer Orla Kiely.

Further exclusive ranges, from other ‘exciting designers’, are in the works. With more details to be revealed soon, it says.
