The online retailer had processed 3.9 million orders which peaked at 265 orders per minute through the new automated fulfilment centre which opened in March 2020.

Revenue excluding financial services at Very was up by 23.3 per cent year on year with overall group revenue up by 15.3 per cent year on year, surpassing £500 million.

CEO Henry Birch said: “We are delighted with Very’s outstanding performance, which shows UK families were more determined than ever to celebrate this Christmas, despite all of the challenges of 2020. Because we sell everything our customers could possibly want, except food, are online only and offer a range of payment options, we were perfectly placed to help a record number of people make the most of the festive period.

“While the economic picture remains unpredictable, we have strong momentum as we begin the year.”
