Supermarket chain Asda has revealed that for the 12 weeks to 5th July 2013 like-for-like sales were flat, up by just 0.7 per cent. In the statement, Asda announced plans to accelerate its
investment in technology and infrastructure to support an increase in its click and collect service offering and mobile commerce capacity.
Walmart reported that in its second quarter to July 26th 2013, like-for-like sales in the US fell by 0.3 per cent, whilst global revenues increased 2.4 per cent to $116.2 billion. In its sales forecast for the year to the end of January 2014, Walmart has slashed its forecast for global growth to between 2 per cent and 3 per cent from its original estimate of 5 per cent and 6 per cent growth. Walmart International grew net sales by 2.9 per cent to $33 billion during the period.
