Outdoor wear specialist Mountain Warehouse has released its trading results for the year 2013/14 which show a significant increase in its operating profits which rose to £8.2 million, up from £5.7 million in the previous year. Sales for the multichannel retailer, which operates 186 stores and sells online, came in at £91.7 million and the increase of some 20 per cent over 2012/13 has been attributed at least in part to the extremely wet weather and flooding in many parts of the country which fuelled demand for waterproof clothing. The business is now planning to add 23 new retail outlets to its store portfolio which will lead to the creation of 100 jobs. Mountain Warehouse currently has 1,200 employees and is headed by chief executive Mark Neale.
