Morrisons confirms online grocery site

Morrisons has confirmed it is launching an online grocery
offering for 2014. The news came as the supermarket announced a 7 per cent
decline in pretax profits to £879 million in 2012. Sales were up 3 per cent to
£18.1 billion, but like-for-like sales were down 2.1 per cent in the year to 3rd
February. Chief executive Dalton Philips acknowledged that while Morrisons was
rather late to the online party, it has spent the time learning from its
involvement with Fresh Direct and Kiddicare. In order to continue expanding its
online presence and adding more relevant categories to its offering, Morrisons
has appointed former Ocado managing director Nigel Robertson as chief executive
of Kiddicare, with overall responsibility for all Morrisons’ general
merchandise online offer. Robertson was previously a nonexecutive director of
the company.
