ASDA has confirmed it will shed 1,360 jobs as part of an overhaul of its store management model. The chain which has 578 stores had earlier warned that some 4,100 jobs were at risk, specifically in back office rather than customer facing functions. The new structure has created over 1,600 section management positions and 4,000 section leader positions with redundancies likely for those who do meet the selection criteria for the new roles, or who choose to leave the business.
ASDA is certainly not alone is seeking to realign its structure. Both Morrisons which is axing 2,600 jobs and Mothercare which is in talks with 500 employees over cuts to working hours are facing similar challenges.
