Multichannel retailer Argos had a decent Christmas, delivering a like-for-like sales uplift of 2.7 percent over the festive period, with total sales up 1.6 percent to £1.74 billion. It was a different story at sister company Homebase, which saw total sales decline by 4.5 percent to £453 million in the 18 weeks to 5th January. Despite the decline, parent company Homebase expects group pretax profit for the financial year to be about £10 million ahead of current expectations thanks to Argos’s robust performance.
