The original parcel shop bites back


Royal Mail is to make its Local Collect “click and collect” service with Post Offices available to the 20,000 SME customers it has contracts with. This will enable many of the UK’s leading small and medium sized online businesses to offer their customers the option of collection from any of the 10,500 Post Office branches. They will join established businesses like Figleaves.com which is already taking advantage of the service.

Local Collect, a partnership between Royal Mail and the Post Office, gives online shoppers access to the largest retail network in the UK, with 99 per cent of the population living within 3 miles of a Post Office branch. While home delivery is still preferred by most customers, click and collect and third party collection points are growing fast as a delivery option. This year it is forecast by Verdict  that 82 million deliveries will be made through these services and that the value of of the chahnel is set to grow by 112 per cent from £3.0bn in 2013 to £6.5bn in 2018.
