Clipper plans float to expand in Europe

Leeds based retail logistics services provider Clipper is planning a flotation to raise funds for significant expansion of its operations in Europe. The business which was founded in 1992 handles distribution of non-food products for a number of significant retailers including ASOS, John Lewis, SuperGroup, ASDA and Morrisons. It manages, for example, ASOS’ global returns facility, operates a unit called Genesis which sells off returned and excess stock via eBay, and is developing its Boomerang returns handling service. The online retail sector forms a quarter of Clipper’s overall sales which were £161 million to the year ended April 20, 2013.

Clipper already has six sites in Germany and believes that its future growth will depend upon it being able to support the growing number of UK online retailers expanding their reach into Europe,  and beyond.  The business has 3000 permanent employees based across 37 sites.
