Sainbury’s is to close its separate general merchandise website in favour of migrating products, other than its Tu clothing range and entertainment lines, over to its main grocery site. Taking effect in November, customers will be able to shop for everyday household goods like small electricals, linens and kitchenware as well as toys, from a single site along with their grocery requirements. Plans for a separate site for Tu continue, and this new site is currently being tested with small groups of customers before roll-out. In the entertainment category, Sainsbury’s also plans to continue with the development of its digital entertainment site which will now offer e-books, as well as music downloads and film, with it having completed its full acquisition of the Anobii e-book platform from HarperCollins and PRH.
