eBay hikes rates without notice

eBay has increased its rates to UK sellers without honouring its promise to provide a full 60 days notice to merchants. The increases which span most of its auction formats have been imposed effective on August 14th but merchants and private sellers were only advised today, July 15th. “You are very much in the hands of eBay on this with no opportunity to negotiate. It is take it or leave it as far as eBay is concerned and many sellers like us will have to increase our prices. As it is, eBay swipes a percentage of shipping fees,  as well as the selling price which makes it difficult to maintain a decent margin,” said Sandie Callan who operates an eBay store alongside her retail fashion shop. “I will now have to think carefully about what I list and start using eBay purely for stock that isn’t moving in the shop.”
