Amazon has launched a same day collection service from newsagents and convenience stores in collaboration with Smiths News. Smiths News delivers twice daily six days a week, and once on Sundays, to its network of independent retailer customers. The Pass My Parcel service will enable Amazon customers placing orders by 11.45am the opportunity to collect their order from their chosen outlet from 4pm on the same day. In addition a guaranteed early next morning collection will be available for those ordering up to 7.45pm each evening. 500 retail outlets have signed up to support the service and will carry Pass My Parcel branding. The service will be provided at no charge to Amazon Prime customers until the end of December and for a £4.99 charge per order for other Amazon customers.
For Smith News the contract allows it to leverage its existing distribution and logistics network and expertise. Jonathan Bunting, managing director Connect News & Media said “We are delighted with the progress we have made on our diversification strategy over the last 12 months. We have worked closely with Amazon to create Pass My Parcel and we are excited about the future potential of this business. We believe that it will also help our retailer customers grow their businesses by offering an important new service to the communities they serve. “
