B&Q is to offer a next day click & collect service for 18,000 SKUs by the end of this year and expand that to 35,000 SKUs in 2015 with many available for same day collection. The DIY retailer is rationalising its ranges so that fewer items are held in stock at individual stores to optimise its inventory and provide better displays. It is, however, at the same time, broadening all ranges online where sales are increasing. The business generated £17 million from its online channel in the six months to August 2nd. It now expects online sales to increase significantly having invest £60 million to develop a new responsive design site to service mobile shoppers, which went live on 21st September. This technology investment is mirrored in-store where new solutions like its B&Q Spaces offers consumers a swift kitchen planning service. This will be live in all of its stores by January 2015 and is currently live in 24 of them. B&Q is also trialling a paint colour match system which will enable customers to access perfect matches with the data held centrally so that the personalised mix can be provided in any B&Q store.
