MyOptique Group, the online retailer of spectacles and contact lenses best known for its ownership of glassesdirect.co.uk has raised £16 million to fund its ongoing expansion plans. New investors Korys and Beringea have joined existing investors Cipio Partners, Silicon Valley Bank, Acton Capital Partners, Highland Capital Partners and Index Ventures in funding the business to the tune of £35 million. MyOptique operates Sunglasses Shop and LensOn in addition to Glasses Direct which was originally founded by Jamie Murray Wells who stepped down from his role as Chairman last year having sold his share to Cipio Partners.
The business is now aiming to expand via acquisitions in France and Germany as well as boost its marketing reach outside of the UK where sales already account for more than 65 per cent of its sales which totalled £34 million for the year to April 2014.
