As the final days of the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships get into full swing, retailers are hoping to cash-in on Brits’ renewed interest in tennis. Analysis from Voucher Codes shows an influx of sports-related offers in the run-up to the Wimbledon final – 61 per cent more than in the two weeks prior to the grand slam – as retailers prepare for Murray-inspired Brits to hit the high street. After a string of confident performances by Murray in his first few matches, hopes are high for the Scot to do well – especially with big names such as Nadal having crashed out in week one. Retailers are expecting this to prompt a reaction in shoppers and site data from Voucher Codes reveals a 189 per cent increase in shoppers hunting for sports offers since Wimbledon opened its gates last Monday.
Claire Davenport, managing director of Voucher Codes comments: “Historically, we have noticed a pique in interest for sport amongst our users during popular sporting events such as the Wimbledon Championships. During the grand slam tournament last year searches for tennis-related codes were up by 135 per cent – this figure is set to rise even further this year with the site already seeing a 189 per cent increase in searches for sports codes.
“After Andy’s win at Wimbledon in 2013, we saw a 100 per cent increase in customers hunting for tennis-related offers in the two weeks following the end of the tournament. Should he continue on his winning streak and lift the trophy on Sunday, retailers can expect to see the benefits for weeks to come.”
