Giftcloud sells £1m of digital gift cards

Britons
have bought digital presents for their peers to the tune of over a
million pounds during the last year, as a gift card service reports that
it has now reach the million pound mark within a twelve month window.

The announcement was made by Giftcloud, a
digital gift card service that allows the British public to buy and
send digital gift cards instantly using an app via text, email and
Facebook for the first time in the UK. The service has only been
available in the UK for 18 months, yet it has recorded huge growth;
resulting in a million pounds worth of digital gift cards sold within
the last year.

With
the potential for instant gift giving, the appeal of the digital gift
cards has previously peaked at Christmas time, as shoppers turn away
from the long last-minute queues and eventually closing shutters of the
high-street and consider other, more convenient options. Equally, the
company was keen to reinforce the message that digital gift cards are
less likely to be lost or reach their expiry, as the recipient receives
several reminders before their digital gifts lose their value.

As
a result, the digital gift cards have increased in popularity as the
message has spread; in part due to the viral factor of gift-giving via
social media, an option that is also available when using the service.
The team has experienced a surge of interest from the B2B market, as
companies look to gift, reward or compensate both employees and/or
customers on mass.
