Royal Mail expands national same day network via acquisition of eCourier

Royal Mail plc has announced it has agreed to
acquire eCourier, a leading same day delivery company operating mainly
in Greater London and offering nationwide distribution. The combination
of eCourier and Royal Mail Sameday, Royal Mail’s existing courier
business, will create a significant player in the same day delivery
market.

The
acquisition supports Royal Mail’s strategic objective to enhance its
parcel offering , expand its network, and capture more value in the
fastest growing segments of the UK parcels market. Same day delivery is
a premium segment with an estimated value of over £500 million and is
growing rapidly. While it is still principally a B2B market, the
currently modest B2B segment is expanding rapidly, driven by the
eCommerce trends and the increasing consumer demand for faster
fulfilment.

eCourier generated revenue of approximately £19 million in 2015-2015 and its CEO will remain in his role.
