Callcredit has withdrawn its Define database for telephone, email and SMS use by clients. This follows the ruling last year* on consent for electronic marketing data which requires prospects to be opted in if their information is passed to third parties for marketing use. The data owner who has some 46 million consumer records in its Define data-set is now working to ensure that consents received from consumers whether directly by it, or by other data contributors, fully conforms to legal requirements. Callcredit expects the process to be complete by the end of March and will now only accept data from contributors who fully comply with the new standards of practice.
*The ruling which affects data collected under the EU’s Privacy & Electronic Communications Regulations came after an unsuccessful appeal by Optical Express which was trying to overturn an enforcement notice issued by the Information Commissioner’s Office”.
