Staples is expected to sell off its European business following the US Federal Trade Commission’s veto on its merger with Office Depot. Staples operates 107 UK stores which primarily serve SMEs and the SoHo market. Both Office Depot and Staples have seen their market share fall with Amazon Business now taking significant sales in the US, yet the US authority’s view was that prices would rise for consumers if the country’s two largest office supplies businesses merged.
