Many DCA members current and past were members of SHOPS, formerly M.O.P.S. (the Mail Order Protection Scheme) and all contributed significant sums to be able to advertise products on a payment with order basis, off-the-page, and to insert catalogues in the national press. Whilst it was never the case that fees could be refunded to advertisers, a DCA team, led by Nigel Swabey, has been working behind the scenes for close on 30 months to ensure that a portion of the fund sitting in the SHOPS account following the closure of the scheme is secured for the benefit of the direct commerce sector. It can now be confirmed that significant progress has now been made in this matter and will bring real value to DCA member businesses going forward. A detailed formal announcement can be expected in the first half of 2019. “It has been a lengthy process negotiating with the parties concerned but I am very pleased to be able confirm that there will be major news to share this Spring,” commented Nigel Swabey, President, DCA.
