Boohoo was first off the block to announce that it enjoyed record demand over the Black Friday – Cyber Monday weekend with its new acquisitions Coast and Karen Millen making a good additional contribution. John Lewis saw its sales rise by 9.5 per cent over the ten days from November 22nd – 1st December, and up by 2.1 per cent from 24th November – 30th November over the same periods last year.
Other retailers, to date, have been slower to report which may point to their having fared less well. However, research from Bloomreach said that 71 per cent of UK shoppers bought from mobile devices during Black Friday and that many used the sale to stock up for Christmas, with slippers, dressing gowns, Christmas pyjamas and socks amongst the most searched for items and noted that the morning commute on Black Friday itself was a peak purchasing time.
