British Garden Centres posts strong sales increase

British Garden Centres which acquired 45 outlets from Wyevale, has achieved sales of £49 million for 2019 and a gross operating profit of £12.2 million.

Its annual report contained a statement from director Robert Stubbs which said: “The directors are pleased to report another very good year of trading. The group has undertaken a substantial acquisition programme during the year resulting in the number of centres operated more than doubling. Turnover increased by approximately 50 per cent due to this expansion with gross margins falling slightly as the acquired centres were integrated into the business and stock sold off.

“The increased level of operations is expected to yield substantial economies of scale in respect of improved buying power and dilution of fixed costs in the coming years.”

The Brigg, Lincs headquartered business has increased its presence in the South via the acquisitions.  Its staff numbers rose by 61 per cent to 1174. It will focus on refurbishing and developing its acquired centres to enhance its offering.
