Celtic & Co enjoys another successful year

Sustainable fashion brand Celtic & Co has increased its annual sales by nearly 75 per cent – taking the overall total from £8.9 million to £15.5 million.

Despite the challenges of Covid-19 to the business, the company has benefited from the resulting eCommerce boom. With more people staying home, the demand for comfortable clothing went up. Leading to significant increases in sales across all Celtic & Co footwear and clothing categories. Sales of its Autumn/Winter collection, for example, were up 80 per cent year on year.

The company’s founders, Nick and Kath Whitworth, who make Celtic & Co’s sheepskin footwear by hand in their Newquay based workshop, say that demand has never been greater for their ‘luxurious’ slippers.

Over the past year, thanks to a growing number of customers in the US, Germany, Canada and Australia, international sales now account for 31 per cent of all sales.  That’s up 88 per cent from £2.6 million in 2019 to £4.9m in 2020.

Nick Whitworth said: “Our strategy is to focus on a wide range of markets and opportunities to ensure we are not over reliant on one market or territory. A key part of this strategy is international growth. We will be targeting a further 20 per cent increase in net sales and increased profitability in 2021.”
