Nursery products retailer Mamas and Papas has posted revenues of £71.5 million for the year to March 31st 2021, having seen a strong increase in its online sales and receiving a boost from the problems at Mothercare. The improved trading resulted in a £1.1 million pre-tax profit for the year which had shown a £3.9 million loss for Y/E March 2020.
The business had opened two new concession stores, one new retail outlet, and had also developed its own brand products.
In a statement Mamas and Papas said: “The company performed very well during the Covid-19 pandemic despite its substantial impact on the financial year. Trading varied for the group, being significantly ahead of the prior year when all sales channels were open, but challenging during the six months of Covid-19 lockdown periods when the stores were temporarily closed.
“Mamas and Papas also benefited from the liquidation of the market leader in the nursery market, Mothercare UK, in January 2020. This left a large gap in the market as their turnover was c. £300m per annum.”
