Royal Mail CEO resigns post

Royal Mail CEO Simon Thompson has stepped down.

Thompson has only held the post since January 2021, and his tenure has been overshadowed by the impact of the disastrous strikes called by the CWU which have caused significant disruption and problems for countless direct retailers.

Royal Mail parent IDS has said that it is in the final stages of appointing a new CEO, with chairman Keith Williams saying of Thompson: “On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Simon for his significant contribution over more than five years at Royal Mail, both as CEO and previously as a non-executive director of the board.

Thompson will stay on until the end of October to help with the transition until a successor is in place.
